I just threw away the last crumpled up piece of wrapping paper in my house, which means Christmas is officially over. This year I had a “Very Bloggy Christmas” filled with excitement and encouragement. It started on Christmas morning when my wonderful husband and I exchanged gifts. In a show of support and belief in my abilities, he gave me a beautiful wooden lap-desk on which to do my blogging, some books to help me get started, a gift certificate for web-design services and and a nod of approval for what I'm doing. My husband is a smart guy and a tough critic, so this meant a lot to me.
My Christmas Gift
And if that isn't enough confirmation that blogging is a good step for me – there's more! We had a lovely Christmas afternoon at my in-laws followed by a gloriously long nap. We woke up and decided to head out to check out a few Christmas light displays which I found using the Christmas light locator website which I mentioned in my last post. Taking my own “Fake It Till You Make It” advice provided a unique Christmas adventure, and a memory I will cherish for years to come.
We drove around and saw a few festively decorated houses with their lights timed to music. I'm not a tiny tot, but my eyes were all aglow with wonder and Christmas spirit. Next we decided to head to a battlefield park in Northern Virginia that has a drive-thru light display. The lights were gorgeous and included everything from “The Twelve Days of Christmas” to “The Wizard of Oz”. I haven't always had the best Christmases – so I was in near disbelief that my Christmas Night was going so perfectly. Little did I know that it was about to get a lot more magical!
As my husband and I crested the hill at the end of the drive-thru display we saw what looked like a huge light sculpture. We drove closer and realized it wasn't a sculpture – but a ferris wheel, and surrounding it was a Christmas Carnival! So – at 10 pm on Christmas we jumped out of my car and went to a carnival. It was the most unexpected and magical Christmas moment I can remember.
Here I am with the Ferris Wheel. Random and fun!
So this Christmas, I was reminded to be thankful for so many things – my family, my friends, my small but growing sense of adventure, and the opportunities that 2013 will bring to me as a new blogger. To me, this Christmas was a sign that good things are to come.
And speaking of what's to come, now that people are settling back into their offices, I will be bringing to you a series of posts on looking for work when you are relocating. Two friends of mine are going to be moving within the next year, and they are facing the challenge of seeking employment in a new place. They both asked me for advice within the last few weeks, and so I hope to shed some light on the topic and start a discussion this week.
I hope that your Holiday was as filled with joy as mine was. I say let's carry that joy with us into the New Year!
